Avoid these 5 Budget Busters

Every budget has to be flexible enough to allow for some changes such as the occasional takeout

Sticking to your budget is very important, but there are a lot of temptations around. Every budget has to be flexible enough to allow for some changes such as the occasional takeout. However, there are a few things that you need to stay clear of so you don’t completely ruin your budget.

1. Not Having a Budget

This could be the worst thing you can do, because by not setting a budget from the beginning, you won’t be able to limit your spending or even set your financial goals.

2. Grocery Shopping Without a List

If you go to the supermarket without a list, you are basically sabotaging your own budget. There is no doubt that you will end up buying things that you don’t need and overspending. Of course, we don’t need to remind you that you should NEVER go to the supermarket on an empty stomach. You will end up buying everything.

3. Sales Such as Black Friday

In most cases, when there are big sales advertised, you will be tempted to buy something. After all, you don’t want to miss the “great deals”. However, if you don’t need anything, don’t just buy something for the sake of buying.

4. Gifts

Do you sometimes buy a gift that you can’t afford just to save face? Sometimes, our social traditions are not in our best interest. Especially if it ruins our budget! The solution is simple, just say no. At times when you find a gift is too expensive for you, opt out and buy something else. It’s illogical to prioritize others before your own financial wellbeing.

5. Donations

It’s hard to go a day without seeing some kind of ad that is inviting you to make a donation. Yet, in big organizations, sometimes your donations don’t go to the people in need, but rather they get spent as admin fees. That is why it is much more beneficial to donate directly to someone in need. Moreover, if you are in debt, or your budget is tight, you can skip donations altogether.
