After its Official Unveiling: the New 10 EGP Bill

Will the old 10 EGP be removed from circulation?

The Central Bank of Egypt decided to launch a 10 EGP bill made out of polymer. The new bill was produced using the latest banknote technology available internationally and was printed in the new printing house in the New Administrative Capital. 

 

The Central Bank confirmed that the old 10 EGP bill will not be revoked and will continue to be in circulation alongside the new bill.

The Central Bank of Egypt announced the launch of the new 10 EGP bill polymer bill as part of the government’s new clean bills policy and to increase the quality of Egyptian banknotes in circulation. 

 

Another reason is that this new type of bill will cost less to produce than regular paper bills especially in the long run since the bill has a long circulation life. This complies with the sustainable development policies adopted by the state for Egypt’s Vision 2030 plan.

Features of the new bill:

 

  • Al Fattah Al Aleem mosque as one of the Islamic architecture examples in the New Administrative Capital.
  • The Ancient Egyptian Civilization is represented by Hatshepsut’s statue.
  • The new bill connects the Ancient Egyptian Civilization with modern Egypt.

  • The new bill is stronger and more resilient and while thinner its lifespan is almost three times more than the current banknotes made out of cotton.
  • Water resistant and can withstand a lot of damage.
  • Environmentally friendly and recyclable.
  • Resistant to bacteria in comparison to regular bills.
  • Hard to counterfeit.

 

Polymer alongside paper:

 

The Central Bank confirmed that the new polymer will be in circulation alongside the old paper bill as usual.
