Post-Covid Syndrome: 5 Symptoms to Keep an Eye Out For

Many people suffer from other symptoms after recovering from Covid.

What do you know about Post-Covid Syndrome? You tested positive for Covid but even after getting better you still have other symptoms? Here’s what you should know and do according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population.

Symptoms of Post-Covid Syndrome:

1- Aches/joint or muscle pain.

2- Pulmonary fibrosis.

3- Fatigue or tiredness.

4- Depression.

5- Tired.

Avoid taking medications without a prescription. Please consult your doctor first.

Post-Covid Syndrome:

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population some of those who were infected with Covid may still feel the effects of the virus after getting better and testing negative (both lab work and x-rays). In other words, the virus is gone but the patient can still feel the aftershocks.

Some recovering patients complain from heart palpitations, myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle), and pulmonary fibrosis.

Bronchodilators:

Most patients are put on a regimen of bronchodilators, cortisone, and anti-fibrotic medications for up to 3 months by their doctor. 80% of cases respond well to treatment while for the remaining 20% the pulmonary fibrosis may get worse and require at home oxygen therapy.

Is everyone who tested positive for Covid at risk of developing Post-Covid Syndrome?

As reported by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population no, not everyone who had Covid is at risk especially if their Covid case was a light one.

85% of Covid patients do not have any other symptoms after getting better. However, those whose cases were medium or severe are the ones with a high likelihood to develop Post-Covid Syndrome. These are mostly individuals with pre-existing chronic conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure problems, overweight/obesity, and pulmonary problems. The latter are the most at risk to develop pulmonary fibrosis.

Prevention is better than a cure:

If you are in the high-risk category then you need to take the vaccine as well as the third “booster” does six months later. If you develop flu like symptoms check with your doctor immediately so you can start the protocol best suited for you.
