6 Tips & Tricks for Driving in Winter

Replace your wipers at least once every 3 years!

If you’re running late for work or an important errand or event you may choose to speed up a little while driving which can be risky (especially in Egyptian streets) but more so in winter when there is rain or fog. Your safety and that of those around you should be your top priority. Here are some tips and tricks you should follow while driving in winter:

1- Check your tyre pressure

Always check your tyre pressure as tyres absorb part of the shock/vibration your car experiences when moving especially if you encounter any potholes or speed bumps. Keep in mind to check your vehicle/tyre alignment at least once a year as it can affect your brakes’ performance.

Speed limits are not a suggestion! Please stick to the road’s speed limit for your safety.

2- Check your battery

A car’s battery must be well maintained especially in winter. The contact points/terminals on the top of the battery may be corroded over time due to extreme humidity. If you notice a white substance around the terminals that is a sign of corrosion. You can clean the terminals using water, soap, baking soda, and a toothbrush. Make sure to dry the terminals and surrounding areas very well and to add some petroleum jelly to stop future corrosion.

You don’t want to be stuck with useless wipers on a rainy day after all!

4- Check your headlights

You can even use specialty cleaning solutions for your headlights.

5- Check your brakes

Have your brakes professionally checked every once in a while and don’t forget to check your brake oil level.

6- Get car insurance for your vehicle

If you don’t already have car insurance then you need to get a car insurance policy right now! A car insurance policy will be your backup against traffic accidents/collisions or theft or attempted theft for example. This type of insurance offers monetary compensation in case a car accident occurs as a result of any of the following:

  1. Rollover or collision due to an accident.
  2. Theft or carjacking.
  3. Fire
  4. Deliberate act by a 3rd party as long as they are not an employee of the insurance policy owner.
  5. Deliberate act by a 3rd party that causes damage to the car.
